    Description

Here we have a Phillipson Paramount 8-1/2' 3/2 Bamboo Fly Rod, complete with that amazing hammer handle the guy was famous for. Completely original parts, one tip down an inch. Completely redone in matching nylons by a gal that used to wrap for Bill Phillipson, but using a spray varnish that got some blems in it. Including what appears to be an ugly cloth imprint. Includes a bag and plastic tube, not original.
For many years I used to fish the "cement plant" stretch of the St. Vrain River below Lyons. Many many years ago, Trout Unlimited came along and "improved" the habitat. While there was a few more fish after that, what they mostly increased was the number of fisherman appearing there. In fact prior to that I don't recall ever seeing anyone except John Gierach and his dog once. Anyway, one of the characters I ran into back then was a funny little guy wearing a pith helmet and toting a lovely old Phillipson Paramount with a snappy little Hardy Perfect attached. I was so impressed I vowed to own one just like it one day. The rod - not the pith helmet. In what can only be described as a serendipitous series of events, the following week I discovered a tiny ancient fly shop on 38th street in Denver. It was run by an equally ancient old guy named George who had, of all things, this Phillipson Paramount in back. Sooooo......I burned some hard earned dollars up and bought the thing. A couple weeks later, my father announced he was going to visit England, so I pestered him into visiting the Hardy Establishment and bringing me home a Perfect Reel. He went one better and bought an extra spool as well. I used to fish this rod often with that Hardy Perfect and a DT5F, mostly using the short tip since you can't tell one from the other in casting. But I wore a cowboy hat.
BTW If you are the guy in the pith helmet, I found what could only have been your pocket knife on a rock midstream that afternoon. Write me and I'll give it back, I still have it.
