    ANTIQUE LS&S CARLSBAD AUSTRIA HAND PAINTED FISH DESIGN DISH W PURPLE FLOWERS . Condition is Used.
    Fish plates like these were all the rage in the first decade of the 1900s which is when this plate was made. Sometime between 1905 and 1910, so they are well over a hundred years old.
    The LS&S mark on the back is for Lewis Straus & Sons (Straus spelled with one 's' at the end, rather than the more usual two). They were a New York based import company that operated from about 1895 to 1917 and had china made and professionally decorated for them in Limoges France as well Carlsbad in Austria as this one is. Their mark is usually found as an overglaze mark.
    This is top quality porcelain. The ones made in Limoges sometimes have the fish individually hand painted, though these Carlsbad ones are transfered on as decal prints and not quite so valuable.
    There is a scratch running across the fish.
