  • Condition: Probably vintage and much better made than many of the saris we have seen and owned, we probably acquired this 2pc set in the early 1970s when I lived in Bahrain and shopped in the souk often for fabrics and clothing. Both pieces are lined with cotton fabric and the skirt decorations attach both lining & outer skirt together; skirt is pull on style with built in elastic waist. Top is lined separately and there are shoulder pads, which could easily be removed if you don't want them. There is about a 1 1/2" gap in the yellow pearl edging on the right side about 2/3 of the way down which would be easy to repair.

    Description

    This is a particularly nice 2 piece Indian costume which we acquired years ago and featured in our shop when it was a "land store."  It is made of  a "silky" probably synthetic fabric like rayon or some other blend, but lined throughout with cotton to make it more comfortable and durable to wear.  The top fastens down the middle with hooks and eyes, it has built in but easily removable shoulder pads, and has an elaborate and highly decorated front accented with lots of metallic gold threads, "pearls", and intricate handwork.  The skirt is currently pull on style with built in elastic and it also has lots of gilded accents & mirrors, along with a 7" quilted border; the emerald green fabric seems to change colors from green to aqua blue subtley as you turn the skirt, which is something I never noticed till I looked at it closely and turned it slowly to describe the features.  While the sizing seems to be for a small woman, if you wore a blouse underneath and left the front open & also made the skirt opening a little bigger with snaps and fastened the elastic on each side, it would work also for a medium size woman.
